Really. I know all parents think their kids are cute. But I just want to squeeze him when I see this pics. Children are so photogenic: If they're not pukingly cute, they're pukingly funny!

The St. Louis Zoo is one of the best in the country and in fact, the world. As far as zoos go, they do their VERY best to give animals good space and great habitat. We were there for 4 hours and still didn't get to do everything before we needed to thaw out at home.
One of the highlights of my trip, and probably my life, was playing with the cougar. He/she batted at the reed just like my house cat. It was really wonderful. We both got to play.
The giant bug we're looking at is a Malaysian Walking Stick that the biologist was kind enough to take out and show us. This sucker was BIG. I sucked it up and touched its back, even though it hissed at me. My son and our good friend Phil were brave enough to let it crawl all over them. Uh, nope. Not this girl. I touched it, okay? Then we hit the Butterfly Garden in the Insectarium (a place for crazy insects?) That was soooo nifty. A tropical paradise with hummingbirds and the most astonishing butterflies in all colors and sizes. Complete with a waterfall.
The St. Louis Zoo also scores very high on the cool factor in that it is FREE to the public...funded by members, much like your PBS station. You can join at their website and help make the zoo even more fantatic that it already is, for the people and the animals.
